What “BigNV” Doesn’t Want You To Know

The Truth About The Night Vision Industry

As of today, the NV Scene is dominated by Social Media Influencers and Night Vision Corporations, who, in the last few years, managed to convince people that Gen 1 devices are not viable for professional use and should only be relegated to amateur activities. These individuals, generally known as BigNV, have pushed this agenda, creating a false narrative, in order to sway users into buying Gen 2+ and Gen 3 devices that unbeknownst to them, come with significant downsides and a very sizeable upcharge compared to the much more reliable and proven Gen 1 devices.

This blog is aimed at debunking all the myths and misinformation created by BigNV

Gen 1 Durability

Unlike Gen 2+ and Gen 3 IIT’s, Gen 1 tubes are MCP free, thus being simpler and less prone to various issues commonly associated with such components. Because of this, First Generation devices are more resistant against light damage, known to cause blems in modern tubes, since the microchannel plate can multiply electrons, beyond a safe level.

The lack of a microchannel plate also means one less possible point of failure, making them more reliable; This same principle also applies to other great creations, which prioritize ruggedness through simplicity such as the mighty fully semi automatic AK47.

User Safety

The MCP is once again the culprit of another common problem associated with Gen 2+ and Gen 3 devices, widely known to injure their users by causing serious burns to their retina.

As shown in the Documentary Film “StepBrothers” from 2008, one of the protagonists is suddenly incapacitated and seriously hurt by a sudden change in lighting caused by indoor lighting being turned on. This is caused by the MCP once again raising the brightness of the image beyond a safe level for both the user and the device itself, making them unfit for professional use.

Why Did This Happen?

With these considerations being made about the dangers of Gen 2+ and Gen 3 devices, one might wonder as to why and how, BigNV would sway people to believe that these devices are better than the old and trusted Gen 1.

The reason, as always, lies in money…
MCP production is a very delicate and expensive process, that very few NV manufacturers are able to accomplish, thus creating a monopoly over production, as opposed to Gen 1 devices which are easy to manufacture. The use of this false narrative pushed corrupt government officials into purchasing large quantities of these newer devices, further strengthening the agenda.
This monopoly caused a massive spark in price, making night vision a very expensive and inaccessible item for both private and military use.

What You Can Do

In order to combat this nonsense, your help is required!
Please do your part by safely disposing of your Gen 2+ and Gen 3 devices and sharing the news about this craziness with your friends and family.
